You think you're going to have a lot of time as soon as you get out there cruising. You'll be learning to play the guitar, contemplating the best-kept secrets of nature, and probably writing a lot of prose to share your revelations with the world.

However.

Van Sant had it right, as usual. You get so busy working on the boat, moving the boat from one place to another, or commiserating with other cruisers about these two activities that little time remains for writing essays. With that as an excuse, those few we have produced are below:

Incidentally, Bernadette Bernon (a former Cruising World editor who with husband Douglas has recorded an entirely library of essays about the cruising life from aboard Ithaca), writes that you won't ever have time to learn the guitar, either.
